When you are facing mold problems a painter might be able to solve it for you.

It all depends on the how severe the mold investation is. If its something superficial a professional tradesman will be able to solve it for you 

If you have a more serious mold problem the true value of a skilled decorator is know what to do when its beyond his or her skillset.

First things first; How bad is it?

The first thing a painter will do is excpect the mold and try to find out what could be the possible cause.

In most of the cases it’s poor ventialtion. Especially in bathrooms people do not always provide for sufficient  ventialtion by opening a window after they had a shower. I know it’s especially hard in the winter when its freezing outside, but ventilation is absolutely necessary to prevent mold on your walls and ceiling.

If the mold is in a bedroom or livingroom it could be a ventilation problem particularly if you find it  above a window or radiator.

If you encounter mold on a random place on the ceiling or just a few centimeters from the floor a leaking tube could be the cause.

Once the tradesman has identified the problem and concluded its not something superficial, they will advice you to seek help from a professional mold remediation service a contractor. All the painter can do at the moment is provide a cosmetic solution, but this won’t help if there is an underlying problem. The mold will simply return over time. 

3 steps a painter will do to get rid of mold

If the painter thinks he can solve the issue he will do the following for you.

The first step is to clean the infected spot with a mold-killing solution like bleach, vinegar, or a commercial fungicide. This prevents mold from growing back under the paint.

The next step is paint the surface with a mold-resistant primer and paint. This will help prevent future mold growth, especially in high-humidity areas like bathrooms and basements.

Final step is to use a moisture resistent sealer to stop the mold from coming back.
